The who’s and how’s of benefits enrollment

Before you can take advantage of the many benefits that Salesforce offers, you need to know who’s eligible for benefits and how to sign up for them.

Who’s eligible

  • Employees—You’re eligible to enroll in Salesforce benefits if you’re a U.S. full-time or part-time employee, or an intern working 20 hours or more per week. You’re not eligible if you’re classified as an agency temp, temporary employee, independent contractor, or other non-employee.

  • Family members—If you’re eligible for benefits, you can enroll the following family members in medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage:

    • Your spouse or qualifying domestic partner.
    • Your children, and/or your spouse/domestic partner’s children, under age 26.
    • Your children, or your spouse/domestic partner’s children, older than age 26 and solely dependent on you for support due to a mental or physical disability.

    Note: Have your dependents’ Social Security numbers (SSNs) on hand when enrolling them in benefits. U.S. health care reform requires SSNs to be reported to the IRS for each covered individual.

  • Domestic partners—Your qualifying domestic partner must be in a committed relationship with you, be at least age 18, and provide a Domestic Partner Declaration [PDF] or Affidavit [PDF] to Concierge for the benefits to become effective.

    Domestic partner coverage is paid with after-tax dollars and is subject to imputed income taxation. However, to offer more equitable tax treatment for employees who cover a domestic partner, Salesforce covers the additional taxes that must be paid on the imputed income. The reporting of the imputed income and the tax payment amount is made at the end of the calendar year, after your last regular paycheck has been issued to you.

    If you terminate your domestic partnership, you need to complete the Termination of Domestic Partnership form [PDF].

When to enroll

You can enroll in Salesforce benefits:

  • Within 30 days of your hire date or becoming eligible for benefits.
  • During Open Enrollment each fall.
  • When you have a qualifying life event, such as getting married or divorced, having a baby, adopting a child, having a covered child turn age 26 (the maximum age for coverage is 25), or switching between part-time and full-time work.

How to enroll

Follow these steps to enroll in Salesforce benefits:

  1. Explore all of your benefits options by reviewing these helpful resources. You can also check Concierge for answers to commonly asked benefit questions.
  2. When you’re ready to enroll, log in to Workday using your network user ID and password.
  3. During Open Enrollment, the first two weeks in November, review your benefits to see if they’re still the right fit, and make any changes you need. To keep participating in a Flexible Spending Account (FSA), you’ll need to re-enroll even if you set aside money last year. And be sure to review your beneficiaries for your life insurance plans to make sure they’re current.
